|a This contribution examines select school textbooks and teaching materials for the subjects of political education and geography. The mere thematization of "foreigners", "migration", and "Europe" does not suffice in order to adequately portray the perspective of the immigration society in the classroom, and to translate this perspective into subject orientations for students. Drawing on practical examples, the author describes certain traps in teaching that often lead to inappropriate ethnic and cultural ascriptions or provide negative "deficit orientations ". Moreover, these traps encourage a static and selective image of history. In eight theses, the author develops recommendations that school textbooks should follow and teaching methods should take into consideration.
